Sophie's Clean Up Fails

Hi.I tried to use Disk Cleanup to reduce the 'Windows Update Cleanup' of 6.5GB. The process went smoothly configuring the changes during shut down and again configuring on re-boot to 100% where it stopped. I waited an hour then powered down and rebooted and found that the configuring now froze at 35%. Powered down and recovered with an Acronis image.

Used Windows Update Troubleshooter download but no problems found. The only thought from me was that the Software Distribution folder had been cleaned in the past but I don't know whether that is relevant. Thoughts would be appreciated.
